The Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance, or NIWA for short, is a group of independent wikis which cover franchises of games produced by Nintendo.

Foundation

The NIWA was founded on February 14, 2010 by Bulbapedia, Zelda Wiki, and Super Mario Wiki. Later, WiKirby, Metroid Wiki, and Wars Wiki joined, the former two being created by members of the original three wikis. On October 1, 2010, Lylat Wiki joined the Alliance. On October 8, 2010, Pikipedia and Pikcanon-NOT joined. On October 15, 2010, Strategy Wiki joined NIWA, despite not being a pure Nintendo wiki. Two weeks later, on October 29, 2010, SmashWiki, a former Wikia wiki, joined. Another wiki is due to join November 6.
